Weekend kitchen work

We worked on our beautiful kitchen this weekend!


We don’t have much room to work with so we decided we will not be putting in an oven since it will take away all counter space.  So we decided to order a 24” sink cabinet and a 30” drawer cabinet from Ikea.  We were lucky that we didn’t even have to go to the store to place the order.  Everything was done online and it was delivered this past Wednesday!! So of course we knew that was going to be our weekend project!

We started out by building a box around the wheel hump so that we have something to set cabinets on.




Then we had to measure 20 times to figure out how much of the cabinets to cut off to mount on the box.  That was tricky but we did it!




We then had to reinforce everything from the inside and outside to make sure it was not going to move at all while driving down the road.  Then I was able to install the drawers and shelves!


I didn’t want a standard RV sink so I went with a BIG one!! I LOVE it!!

It even come with a cutting board on top.



And check out that countertop!!


I think the next project will be to secure the fridge which is going right next to the sink! We haven’t done any plumbing yet so we can’t insulate and finish the walls yet.  Those will stay open until we have everything framed out and ready to run plumbing and electrical!

Building the couch

The first thing we decided to build is the couch.  We are going to start building out from the front of the bus towards the back.  First up is framing out the couch. Then adding the plywood We then put trim on the outside to finish it off nicely. The next day we made the lids and painted! I still want to make the paint more rustic looking so may add some color and sand some spots!  I’m so happy with how it turned out.  I love that we have all this storage. Now I have to figure out how to make the cushions for the couch.  Next we will be making the kids bunk beds! BTW- we have not anchored anything down yet since we still have to frame and insulate the walls.  Waiting until we finish framing everything so we can plan the electrical and plumbing before we put walls up. Update: I didn’t like the paint job so I redid it.  So much better!

Subfloor is done! Plywood is down.

Written by Nicole Anderson Brent was available to help me this weekend so he did all the plywood cuts!  Last pieces going in!  We are done with the plywood!!  Next is figuring out the layout of the bus so we can figure out electrical and plumbing before we start framing and insulating the walls.  I’m playing around with the floor plan using cut-out pieces and graph paper!! Once I get it finalized on paper I will tape it out of the plywood to make sure it all makes sense!

Kitchen Pantry!

Today’s project was building a pantry! Since we have a mid size bus space is very valuable and we have to take advantage of every square inch.  This is a 7 in wide pantry but it will fit a lot of stuff! Here is a video of Brent and I framing it out. We then put sides on each shelf so that things don’t fall off the shelf.  The hard part was lining up the drawer rails since there was 4 of them.  I got it in there perfect!! I’m so happy with it!! Just need a front cover to make it look pretty and a handle to pull it out.  Also note the great job did on framing in the fridge! On top of the fridge will be a convection/toaster over.  On top of the pantry will be an extra storage space.
